The UEFA Champions League is now in the final eight, and some hefty matchups are coming up in April. Aston Villa takes on PSG, while Dortmund will battle Barcelona. Real Madrid, the winningest club of all time, will go up against Arsenal, who hasn’t won the Champions League in its 138-year history. Finally, Inter and Bayern Munich will fight for a place in the semi-finals.
Which teams will come out on top? We’ve analyzed the games and provide the best predictions in this post. Read on to check them out.
Aston Villa vs PSG: Better Odds for the French Side
PSG has been in impressive form since the start of the year, and they’re predicted to see off Aston Villa in the quarterfinals. This doesn’t mean the contest will be an easy one. With Dibu Martinez in goal, the English side has shown they can be resilient. Villa finished eighth on the table compared to PSG’s 15th position. However, football odds from sportsbooks favor the Paris-based club.
For emphasis, PSG averages 2.1 goals per game, close to Aston Villa’s 1.9. The main difference comes in the number of big chances created. While Aston Villa records 2.3, it’s double that for PSG, at 4.6. This shows that the French team creates more goal-scoring opportunities and will typically have more chances to take the lead if they can finish properly.
It’s worth mentioning that PSG eliminated Liverpool, the table-topper, in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Aston Villa had to deal with a simpler opponent in Club Brugge.
Dortmund vs Barcelona: A Win for the Catalans
Barça faced Dortmund earlier in the league phase and emerged victorious with a 2-3 scoreline. Notably, this was in Dortmund’s home stadium, Signal Iduna Park. The Blaugrana have already shown they can defeat The Black and Yellow on the road. And we don’t see Dortmund getting the upper hand when they visit Catalonia on the 9th of April.
In 10 games this UCL season, Barcelona has found the net 32 times. This is four more than Dortmund, who have scored 28 in 12 games. The Black and Yellow narrowly went past Lille in the round of 16, drawing 1-1 in the first leg and winning 1-2 in the second. By contrast, Barça beat Benfica home and away in commanding fashion. The first leg was a 1-0 away win with a red card, and the second was 1-2 at home.
Considering the current form of both teams, we predict a Barcelona victory in the quarterfinals.
Real Madrid vs Arsenal: A Miracle Will Save The Gunners
Arsenal may not have a rich Champions League history like Madrid, but the team aims to create some this season. It’ll be poetic if they can do that while defeating Real Madrid in the quarterfinals. However, that’d be a miracle.
The English team doesn’t have the squad to match the Spanish side on paper. The latter boasts the likes of Vinicius, Mbappe, Bellingham, and Modric. On the other hand, Arsenal relies on Saka, who’s currently injured. If he doesn’t make it for the quarterfinal clash, Arsenal’s chances of progressing are further reduced.
Without underrating the North London side, we foresee Los Blancos coming out on top after the two legs. The first will be at the Emirates Stadium, where Madrid will aim to get a draw at least. Even if they lose, they can overturn things at home with a comeback, which we’ve seen them do multiple times.
Inter Milan vs Bayern: An Edge for the Bavarians
The matchup between Inter and Bayern is arguably the most balanced of all four fixtures in the quarterfinals. However, the odds and our prediction tilt toward the German side. Inter has been more consistent in the UCL this season, finishing fourth on the table, while Bayern ended in 12th position. However, The Bavarians have been more prolific in crucial games.
For context, Bayern matched over rivals Leverkusen in the round of 16, winning 5-0 on aggregate. This same Leverkusen team had finished sixth on the table. Conversely, Inter faced an easier opponent in Feyenoord and managed a 4-1 aggregate win.
In terms of goals, Bayern has found the net nearly twice as often as Inter Milan. The German side has 28 goals in 12 games compared to 15 in 10 by the Italian team. If Bayern maintains its ruthlessness, it can overcome Inter’s defense, which has only conceded two goals in the UCL this season.
